The boycotted smack Wave, under police guard at Cork, 1881. Among the recent outrageous and absurd proceedings of the Irish agitators...was their attempt to forbid the unloading of a smack called the Wave, which had entered the river with a cargo of timber...On her arrival some weeks ago the trades of Cork protested against the importation of manufactured goods. One of the reasons assigned for objecting to her discharge was that the cargo was sent over by Mr. Bence Jones, who has become unpopular in the South of Ireland from his opposition to the Land League...From her first arrival in Cork, ...the vessel was under the protection of the police...and the discharge of the cargo was commenced...As the loads were made the men engaged in the work...[were] protected by an escort of police on foot and mounted. Numerous crowds of idlers congregated on the quays... and, when the carts moved towards their destination, followed with shouts and loud threats, and even threw stones from the bridge. On two or three days of last week, military ambulance waggons were employed in removing the cargo discharged from the Wave...Large crowds assembled... and the persons engaged in the operation, as well as the police and military, were groaned and jeered at'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
