Book of subscribers to the Roebuck Testimonial at Sheffield, 1869. The presentation of a testimonial gift from the Liberal electors of Sheffield to Mr. Roebuck, late M.P. for that borough...took place, on Friday, the 19th March, in the banqueting-room of the Cutlers Hall. The chair was occupied by Mr. Mark Firth, the Master Cutler; the address of presentation was made by Alderman Fisher; and Mr. Roebuck returned thanks in a very characteristic speech. The substantial part of the gift was the sum of £3000 in Consols, which he was asked to accept for his daughter, Miss Roebuck. The names of the subscribers, with the address, are inscribed in a very handsome volume, bound by Messrs. House and Co. of Watson-walk, Sheffield. The binding is most gorgeous, in the illuminated Mediaeval style; the corner panels, in a sunk centre, contain gilt bosses, with the Sheffield arms engraved thereon; the centre sunk panel contains the monogram; while the clasps have engraved on them the crest, bearing the motto Free, and the coat of arms of Mr. Roebuck's family. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
