Wreck of The Amelia, on the Hermitage Rocks, Jersey, 1856. The coast of Jersey, with its surrounding groups of rocks, and its banks and shoals, is frequently the scene of wrecks; and vessels are often stranded upon its rocky ledges, notwithstanding its bays and coves afford good anchorage...the barque Amelia...was hourly expected to break up; but, by the sudden change of weather, the vessel was extricated from her perilous situation on Tuesday evening. On Wednesday she was floated to within a short distance of the harbour mouth, where at the fall of the tide she was moored. The sea becoming rough in the night, she broke from her hawser and got adrift. On Thursday morning she was found close to a well-known rock in the bay called the Rocquetier, where she remained some time, but was expected to be brought into harbour at the next tide'.
