Whittington Resting on Highgate-Hill - from a painting by F. Newnham, 1858. Whether all the wonderful stories which have been told of Whittington and his cat be true or not, the stone still stands on Highgate-hill marking the spot where he is supposed to have sat down to rest, and to have heard the welcome chimes of Bow bells, Turn again, Whittington, Lord Mayor of London!'...we give an Engraving from a picture representing this incident, to which an interesting story is attached. On the formation of the Whittington Club, some dozen years ago, the late Douglas Jerrold gave his zealous exertions towards the promotion of the scheme, and afterwards presented to the institution this very picture, painted by F. Newenham, so appropriately consummating the career of the man after whom it was called. This picture perished in the fire which four years ago destroyed the club; but fortunately a copy had already been obtained of it for publication in this Journal, and the Engraving from it which we now offer comes very appropriately in connection with the inaugural assembly at the new clubhouse'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
