The War in Denmark: village of Eckernsunde and bridge of boats, 1864. Our Special Artist has made a sketch of Eckernsunde, which is engraved in anticipation of some future attempt by the Danish naval forces to cut off the Prussian communications at that point. The Rolf Krake...came into the waters of Eckernsunde, apparently with this purpose, on the 18th of February, but was compelled by the fire of the Prussian batteries to withdraw. The piece of water shown in our Engraving is a narrow strait connecting the lagoon of Nybel Noer, in the Sundewitt Peninsula, with the Gulf of Flensburg...the head-quarters of the Prussian division immediately engaged in the attack on Duppel and Sonderburg are fixed in Broagerland...It is evident that, if the Danes could, by means of the Rolf Krake and their gunboats entering from the Gulf of Flensburg, succeed in destroying the bridge of boats at Eckernsunde, the Prussians would have no other road left open to them between Gravenstein and Broacker than the circuitous road which passes all round the Nybel Noer...But the vast numerical superiority of the Prussians on land far more than outweighs the advantage bestowed upon the Danes by their command of the sea'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
