The Last of Temple Bar, 1877, (1897). Creator: Unknown
The Last of Temple Bar, 1877, (1897). Temple Bar was the principal ceremonial entrance to the City of London from the City of Westminster. In the 19th century it became a bottleneck for traffic, and the late 17th century arch of Portland stone designed by Christopher Wren was dismantled. (It was later re-erected near St Pauls Cathedral). From Old and New London, Volume I, by Walter Thornbury. [Cassell and Company, Limited, London, Paris & Melbourne, 1897]
