The Suicide, c1780-1825. Creator: Thomas Rowlandson
The Suicide, c1780-1825. This is one of the few drawings of Rowlandsons where humor is not dominant. However, the sincerity of the wife, who has collapsed, compared to that of the horror-stricken attendants, is a matter of conjecture. From " The Watercolour Drawings of Thomas Rowlandson from the Albert H. Wiggin Collection in the Boston Public Library" with commentary by Arthur W. Heintzelman. [Watson-Guptill Publications, Inc.
