A Street in Lille, (1919). Dead horses in a street, scene from the First World War, 1914-1919: Photograph taken shortly after one of the battles in the manufacturing town of Lille [in northern France], engagements which were desperate in their intensity. The Germans occupied the town on August 21, and for months it became the object of bombardment and attack by the French and their endeavour to drive them out.
