The Story of Lucretia, c. 1530. The tribulations of the Roman noblewoman Lucretia, a well-known story from classical antiquity, is represented here in a northern setting. Assaulted in the background by Tarquinius, she is sorrowful in the foreground. At her side are her two brothers who will seek revenge.
