Statue of the Dean of Ripon, St. George's Hall, Liverpool, 1871. When the Rev. Dr. Hugh M'Neile, a well-known clergyman of the Evangelical party at Liverpool, was appointed to the Deanery of Ripon, some of his friends and admirers in Liverpool raised a subscription for a statue of him, which the Town Council allowed to be placed in St. George's Hall. Mr. G. G. Adams, sculptor, of London, was intrusted with the commission, and the manner in which he has executed his work will add to his reputation as an artist. The figure is 7 ft. high independently of the pedestal, and is executed in pure white Carrara marble. The Dean is represented standing on his right leg, the left foot a little advanced, the head erect, and looking to the front. The left hand holds an open book; the right is slightly extended, in an attitude of demonstration. The pose of the figure is one of great dignity and freedom, and the Doctor's robes are very skilfully treated. Mr. Adams has not only succeeded in avoiding all stiffness in the fold, but he has also given a sort of silken sheen to the marble. Those who know Dr. M'Neile consider the likeness perfect'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
