The State of Ireland: a gentleman's residence in 1881. The district has lately been one of the most disturbed in the country...For more than a month past, Mount Coote, near Killmallock, has been handed over to the military, occupied by the King's Own Borderers, the Army Service Corps, and a few of the Royal Irish Constabulary. The owner, Mr. Coote, is pleased to know that it is in such safe custody...the ante-room [is] occupied by a party of the Royal Irish Constabulary. The new library is converted into a barrack-room for the Army Service Corps; and the dining-room is occupied by the officers mess...Walking round the house, we come upon new sentry-boxes, and sentries carefully guarding each side... In front of the house is a lake, in which may be seen quantities of fish. On it are seen a party of the Borderers in a boat...The Illustrations show the back and front of the house and a group of its military guardians. The two upper views are from sketches by Major Talbot Coke, of the King's Own Borderers; the larger Engraving, which represents the soldiers assembled in front of the mansion, is from a photograph by Messrs. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
