Framed Print of St. Dunstan s-in-the-East, 1844. Creator: Unknown
St. Dunstan s-in-the-East, 1844. Church in the City of London. This beautiful church, by [Sir Christopher] Wren, is situated between Idol-lane and St. Dunstan s-hill, Tower-street...The church is dedicated to St. Dunstan, Archbishop of Canterbury, after whom it is called...The ancient church was damaged by the great fire of 1666, and was shortly after repaired; but the elegant spire and tower were not finished till 1699. They are masterpieces of design and construction....The body of the church having been only repaired by Wren, and having fallen much into decay, it was taken down and re-built in 1821, under the direction of Mr. David Laing, the architect of the Custom-house. It has been re-built in truly handsome style, and possesses one of the most embellished interiors in the metropolis. From Illustrated London News, 1844, Vol V.
