Show of Spring flowers in the Botanic Gardens, Regent's Park, [London], 1870. The show...was attended by a large number of fashionable visitors, the Duchess of Cambridge amongst them...Much attention was drawn to the roses exhibited by Messrs. Paul and Son, of Cheshunt, and Mr. William Paul, of Waltham-cross. The latter produced some extraordinary specimens of a new rose named after Princess Christian...Messrs. Rollison, of Tooting, won a prize for their collection of plants, including several noteworthy orchids, among which the small sophronita coccinea was conspicuous by its bright colour...The amateurs came out in much force. Mr. James, gardener to Mr. F. W. Watson, of Isle- worth, made a great display of cyclamens and cinerarias. The class of greenhouse plants was excellently represented by the groups for which Mr. Wright, gardener to Mr. C. H. C. Roberts, and Mr. Wheeler, gardener to Sir F. Goldsmid, gained first and second prizes. The hyacinths shown by the same growers were, though remarkably fine, surpassed by the twelve for which Mr. Searle, gardener to Mr. B. Steele, took deservedly the first prize. Mr. Ware, of Tottenham, was the leading exhibitor of forced hardy herbaceous plants; and took a first prize for lilies'. From Illustrated London News, 1870. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
