View of a...hospital for the poor, erected chiefly by the munificence of the late Mr. David Sassoon...[It] will henceforth be maintained by Government, which has contributed one third of the cost of its erection...Though Mr. Sassoon, full of years and good works, has not lived to see the work completed, he has left a worthy representative in his son, Mr. Abdoola David Sassoon, the present head of the family, who has been careful to see the charitable wishes of his father carried out. The work of erecting the hospital, from the designs of Lieutenant-Colonel Wilkins, R.E. has been under the charge of the executive engineer at Poonah, Major Mellis, and under the immediate superintendence of Lieutenant Cruickshank, R.E...The Sassoon General Hospital...in the English Gothic style, has a very imposing appearance, with its massive clock-tower. It consists of two floors, which have lofty roofs, perfect ventilation, and an internal arrangement simple but admirable. Residences for the medical subordinates and hospital servants are attached to the building...Dr. Lord, civil surgeon at Poonah, has been appointed to the charge of it'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
