The Royal Font, 1850. Creator: Unknown
The Royal Font, 1850. This interesting Font...consists of a triangular base and plinth of bold design, on either side of which are the Royal arms. On the top of the plinth, at the base of a shaft of foliage-work, are seated three figures of children playing the lyre. The shaft carries a bowl of peculiarly graceful outline, the rim of which has water-lilies round it beautifully modelled; a single water-lily is in the bowl, producing a charming effect'. The silver-gilt Lily Font was commissioned by Queen Victoria from the silversmiths Edward Barnard and Sons. It is used at the baptismal services of members of the British royal family.
