Reverend Joseph Barber Lightfoot, Bishop Designate of Durham, 1880. He became the bishop of Durham in 1879. For a period of ten years he was a member of the New Testament Company of Revisers. Their Revised New Testament caused a public outcry when published. From Men of Mark: a gallery of contemporary portraits of men distinguished in the Senate, the Church, in science, literature and art, the army, navy, law, medicine, etc. Photographed from life by Lock and Whitfield, with brief biographical notices by Thompson Cooper.
