The Queen in the Highlands: ruins of Old Inverlochy Castle, [Scotland], 1873. Her Majesty the Queen returned on Tuesday to Balmoral from her week's sojourn at Inverlochy Castle, near Fort William, Inverness-shire, the seat of Lord Abinger...A mile or two from Fort William, and under the very shadow of huge Ben Nevis, the loftiest mountain in the British Islands, are the ruins of old Inverlochy Castle. These consist of four large round towers, with connecting screens; the western and southern are nearly entire. It has been thought to have been an ancient stronghold of the Comyns, in the reign of Edward I. but this opinion is rejected by Dr. J. H. Burton and other good Scottish antiquaries. This place was the scene of a fight between Donald of the Isles and the Earls of Mar and Caithness, in the reign of James I. when the Earl of Caithness was slain; and it was here that the Marquis of Montrose, in 1645, won a great victory over the Marquis of Argyll, defeating him with the loss of 1500 men, as described by Sir Walter Scott in his Legend of Montrose'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
