Framed Print of Prize given by the editors of the Spectator to be shot for at the Wimbledon Rifle Meeting, 1865. Creator: Unknown
Prize given by the editors of the Spectator to be shot for at the Wimbledon Rifle Meeting, 1865. Our Engraving represents the design of the shield and ewer which the editors of the Spectator have given as a prize to be shot for at the Wimbledon Meeting of the National Rifle Association this week. This prize is adjudged to the marksman who has made the greatest number of points in five shots (without the back-sight being raised), at any distance between 200 and 300 yards, as the officer in charge of the squad may direct. The material of both the shield and the ewer is bronze, and the embossed figures are in silver. They are copies of originals in the Louvre; the style of the workmanship is called the Briot, and the originals are about two centuries old. These reproductions are executed by Messrs. Elkington and Co. of Regent-street'. From Illustrated London News, 1865. Heritage Images features heritage image collections. © The Print Collector/Heritage Images
