Portrait of the Right Honourable John Johnson, Lord Mayor, 1845. John Johnson, Member of the Worshipful Company of Spectacle Makers, was the first member of that company to become Lord Mayor of the City of London. He was also Master of the Worshipful Company of Distillers. Mr. Johnson had formerly been the lessee of the celebrated Dart moor quarries, and had undertaken and executed many very great and national works in the construction of bridges, in the formation and improvement of the dockyards of the country, and, above all, in the erection of that effectual barrier against the violence of the ocean, the stupendous structure, the Plymouth Breakwater.
