Portrait of Jerzy Radziwill (ca. 1480-1541), Grand Hetman of Lithuania, 1749-1756.
Additional Info: The portrait shows a man with a long black beard, wearing a full knight's armour. It is probably an imaginative portrait of Jerzy Radziwill, born around 1480. He was the Cupbearer of Lithuania between 1510 and 1516 and also the voivode of Kyiv in 1511-1514. In 1521 he became the first Lithuanian Court Hetman (field hetman). The next year he was appointed the castellan of Trakai, and around 1527/1528 he became the castellan of Vilnius. At that time he also took the office of the Marshal of the Court. In 1531, after the death of Konstanty K. Ostrogski, Radziwill became the "great hetman." He died in 1541. Heritage Images features heritage image collections. © Heritage Art/Heritage Images
