Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza, French explorer, 1882
Pierre Savorgnan de Brazza, French explorer, 1882. Brazzas (1852-1905) explorations of the Congo paved the way to the establishment of French colonies in West Africa. He founded the city of Brazzaville in 1880. Brazzas sudden death from a fever in Dakar in 1905 led to speculation that he had been poisoned.
