Ormoulu clock, presented by the Empress of the French to the bazaar for the benefit of St. Mary's Orphanage, at Lanark, 1864. The accompanying Engraving represents the ormoulu clock given by the Empress Eugenie to the Bazaar, held on the 12th April...The group surmounting the clock shows St. Michael in the act of triumphing over the Evil Spirit. It was put up as the second prize in a lottery held for the charitable fund; the first prize being a Roman cameo, set in gold, of Etruscan device. The Sisters of Charity at Lanark [in Scotland] are of the white-bonneted order so often met with in the streets of Paris, and sometimes met with also in London. Their works of mercy are carried on in all parts of the world; there being more than 16, 000 of these benevolent sisters distributed in little colonies far and wide. The home at Lanark has not been very long established, but the number of orphans already exceeds the accommodation for them; and this bazaar was intended to provide for its necessary enlargement'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
