Framed Print of The new Infirmary, Bolton, Lancashire, 1881. Creator: Unknown
The new Infirmary, Bolton, Lancashire, 1881. The new Infirmary building, of which we give an Illustration, has been erected from designs by Mr. R. K. Freeman, the architect, at a cost of about £25, 000, and is a handsome Gothic structure of brick, with stone dressings. It will contain seventy-five beds, sixteen of which belong to a children's ward, erected according to the bequest of Dr. S. Taylor Chadwick, who left £5000 towards the endowment. The building is arranged in four distinct blocks, the centre for administrative offices, a pavilion at each end, and the children's hospital in the rear. The main corridor is 300 feet long. The cubic space per bed is 1820 feet in the pavilions, or in some of the adult wards 1877 feet per bed; and 1700 feet per bed in the childrens wards. The site is on the Bridge-house estate, near Chorley-street, a position withdrawn from the noise and smoke of the town'. From "Illustrated London News", 1881.
