Models of ships in the Naval Gallery at the South Kensington Museum, 1865. The Caledonia, which has, since 1856, been named the Dreadnought...has taken the place of the old Dreadnought as the hospital-ship at Greenwich...She was designed by Sir William Rule, built at Devonport dockyard, and launched in 1808...This is what was reckoned a first-rate man-of-war at the time when our present captains first went to sea as midshipmen. The Caledonia...is now to be removed from the Thames, as the sick seamen will be accommodated in Greenwich Hospital. The Queen, built at Portsmouth between 1833 and 1839, from the designs of Sir William Symonds...[was] the very last sailing line-of-battle ship that was built, or that will ever be, for the British Navy...Her armament was 110 guns...She was converted to a screw two-decker in 1859 at Sheerness. The Agamemnon was the first man-of-war built for the screw-propeller, being laid down at Woolwich in November, 1849, and launched in May, 1852. She was designed by Mr. J. Edye...Her engines are of 600-horse power...It will, of course, be remembered that in 1857 and 1858 the Agamemnon was employed in laying down the Atlantic telegraph cable'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
