Major-General Edward Charles Frome, Inspector-General of the Royal Engineers, 1868. Engraving from a photograph by John Watkins. The newly-appointed Inspector-General of Royal Engineers, and Director of Works for the War Office, who has succeeded Field-Marshal Sir John Burgoyne in those offices, is Major-General E. C. Frome, R.E. He entered the service in 1825, and was employed some years in Canada. Upon his return to this country he was appointed Instructor of Surveying and Practical Astronomy to the junior officers of the corps of Royal Engineers. He was subsequently engaged in special duties under the Colonial Office. He has held command of the Engineers successively in Scotland, Ireland, and Gibraltar, from which last station he was relieved after his promotion to the rank of a general officer. The date of his commission as Major-General is Jan. 5, 1864. He is an Associate of the Institute of Civil Engineers, and F.R.A.S.'. From Illustrated London News, 1868. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
