Lord Harlech, 1876. Creator: Unknown
Lord Harlech, 1876. Engraving from a photograph by Barraud and Jerrard. The Right Hon. John Ralph Ormsby-Gore, who has recently been raised to the Peerage by the title of Baron Harlech, in the county of Merioneth...is the possessor of large estates in Wales and the county of Salop, and he represented Carnarvonshire from 1839 to 1841, and North Shropshire since May 1859. He was a steady Conservative, and in a certain sense a remarkable member of Parliament, inasmuch as he was most regular in his attendance on the sittings of the House, coming in at the earliest hour, leaving for that period which is conventionally allotted to dining, and returning later in the evening to remain until he was one of the last who quitted. He always occupied a particular seat on the fourth bench on that particular side of the House which his party happened to occupy for the time being'. From "Illustrated London News", 1876
