Leeds Castle, 1845. Creator: Unknown
Leeds Castle, 1845. Medieval castle in Kent. Leeds Castle offers to the eye of the tourist a noble specimen of the Feudal Keep, in its most picturesque and least repulsive form. A stone bridge of two arches connects the Castle with the Park, by which means, in belligerent times, the complete isolation of the structure could be easily secured. The Castle itself mainly consists of two venerable gateways, a grand Hall, and a magnificent suite of state apartments. These are ranged round an ample quadrangle; and, being constructed entirely of stone, and exhibiting the architectural features of a variety of epochs, combine to form a grand and imposing tout ensemble.
