The late Roundell Palmer, First Earl of Selborne, P. C. 1895. The Earl of Selborne, who died on May 4, at the age of eighty-two, was a great lawyer and a good man...In 1837 Mr. Roundell Palmer was called to the Bar...He became M.P. for Plymouth as a moderate Conservative in 1847, and represented that constituency for ten years, during which period he "took silk." He was appointed Solicitor-General and was knighted in 1861, at which time he had re-entered the House of Commons as a moderate Liberal M.P. for Richmond. In 1863 he was promoted to the Attorney-Generalship. He was for the next three years in the heyday of success at the Bar. In politics he took the conscientious step of opposing the Bill for the Disestablishment of the Irish Church. His chief interest in politics was essentially theological. His printed words have chiefly to do with hymnology and ecclesiastical matters, and his last important speech in the House of Lords was a vigorous oration against the Deceased Wife's Sister Bill, in June...In Mr. Gladstone's Ministries he was twice Lord Chancellor...In 1872 he was created a peer, and eleven years afterwards became an Earl'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
