The late Right Hon. Sir Louis Mallet, C.B. 1890. Portrait from a photograph by Hill and Saunders. Sir Louis Mallet died on Feb. 16, at Bath. He was born in 1823, the second son of the late Mr. John Louis Mallet of Hampstead, near Middlesex, by Frances, his wife, daughter of the late Mr. John Herman Merivale of Barton Place, Devonshire. He entered the Audit Office, as a clerk, in 1839, and was transferred to the Board of Trade in 1847. He acted as private secretary to two Presidents of the Board of Trade - first, from 1848 to 1852, to Lord Taunton, and secondly, from 1855 to 1857, to Lord Stanley of Alderley. He was an Assistant Commissioner for negotiating the Commercial Treaty with France in 1860, and was a joint Plenipotentiary for negotiating the Treaties of Commerce and Navigation with Austria in 1866. He was Assistant Secretary to the Board of Trade from 1866 to 1872, a member of the Council of India from 1872 to 1874, and Permanent Under-Secretary of State for India from 1874 to 1883. He received the decoration of C.B. in 1866, and two years later he was made a Knight Bachelor. In 1883 his name was added to the Privy Council. The deceased gentleman...had four sons'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
