The late outrage on the Neutrality of Brazil: The Florida (Confederate) and the Wachusetts (Federal) in Bahia Harbour, 1864. Wachusetts; the Brazilian warship; Forida. Our readers will not have forgotten the extraordinary action perpetrated by the Commander of a United States war-steamer, the Wachusetts, in the neutral harbour of Bahia, on the 7th October, when an attack was suddenly made upon the steamer Florida, belonging to the navy of the Confederate States, and, after a few minutes struggle with the few men who were on board, the Florida was audaciously carried away from beneath the protection of the Brazilian forts and ships of war. We are indebted to the Rev. C. G. Nicolay, English chaplain at Bahia, for the means of publishing an Illustration of this strange affair. [The engraving] represents the position of the two American ships, with the Brazilian corvette lying between them, at the usual anchorage for men-of-war, previously to the hostile movement of the Wachusetts. This position is between Fort Gamboa and Fort do Mar, and is unquestionably within the accustomed harbour'. From Illustrated London News, 1864. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
