Lansdown Tower and garden, 1845. Creator: Smyth
Lansdown Tower and garden, 1845. View of the tower of an architectural folly built for British art collector William Beckford near Bath, Somerset. It was designed by Henry Goodridge. The house and contents were auctioned after Beckfords death in 1844. The design is square to an altitude of 130 feet from the foundation; it then assumes an octangular form for 12 feet more, and this is crowned by 12 feet of octangular woodwork, of a lantern shape, which is protected by an iron pillar at each angle - these, as well as the dome, are gilt.
