Lancaster Castle, 1850. Medieval castle in Lancaster, Lancashire. The large square keep is very ancient, and prodigiously strong. The gateway, defended by two semi-octangular projecting towers, is attributed to John of Gaunt...'. From Illustrated London News, 1850.
