Three ladies of fashion on their way to "Ye Olde English Fayre, " at the Albert Hall, 1881. The Grand Fancy Fair and Musical Fete, which was opened...by Princess Christian, in presence of several members of the Royal family and a whole galaxy of the beauty, rank, and fashion of the land, has met with all the artistic and financial success which an enterprise so original, picturesque, and benevolent deserved. The proceeds...will be devoted to the funds for completing the new building for the Chelsea Hospital for Women, the first stone of which was laid by H.R.H. the Princess of Wales in July, 1880...The "Three Ladies of Fashion going to the Olde English Fayre, " whom we have depicted, are intended to represent Mrs. Samuda, Mrs. George Bolton, and Lady Archibald Campbell. Their dress is plush, and old dead rose-leaf in colour, turned down with the same, only a shade darker. Steel-facet cut buttons, powdered wig, three-cornered hat, boots, spurs, and riding-whip enter into the costume of each. The badge they wear is a fleur-de-lys on the left lapel worked in silver on black velvet. Lady Archibald Campbell, it will be remembered, is the same lady who went to the last Drawingroom wearing the heraldic blazon of the Argylls'. From "Illustrated London News", 1881. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
