King Edward II, 1860. Edward II (1284-1327) succeeded his father, Edward I, in 1307. His reign was characterised by friction with the barons, who in 1311 drew up a document called the Ordinances, which imposed restricitions on the kings finances and power of appointments, as well as leading to the execution of Edwards unpopular favourite, Piers Gaveston. Edwards defeat by Robert the Bruce at Bannockburn (1314) led to his authority being still further emasculated, but in 1322 Edward freed himself from the control of the barons when he defeated and executed Thomas of Lancaster, and revoked the Ordinances. In 1326, Edwards queen, Isabella of France, assisted Roger de Mortimer, a baron exiled in France who was also her lover, in planning an invasion. Deserted by his followers, Edward fled and was captured attempting to escape by sea. He was imprisoned, forced to renounce his crown, and murdered, at Berkeley Castle in Gloucestershire. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
