International Exhibition of Fruit at the Horticultural Society's Gardens, South Kensington, [London], 1865. As might be expected at this season of the year, the exhibition consisted principally of apples and pears. There were, however, some fine pines [ie pineapples] and numerous good specimens of dried and preserved fruits. The following medals were awarded: The gold medal of the society for the best collection of fruit and vegetables produced in the garden of a Sovereign - awarded to Mr. Thomas Ingram, pro her Majesty the Queen, Windsor. The gold medal of the society for the best collection of fruit and vegetables grown by any botanic or horticultural society in any part of the world - to the Horticultural Society of Copenhagen. The gold medal of the society for the best and most complete representative collection of fruit and vegetables from any of the colonies - to the Fruit Growers Association of Nova Scotia. First Banksian gold medal for the best and most complete representative collection from the Presidencies of India - to collection from Presidency of Madras. The first gold Knightian medal of the society to the exhibitor who shall obtain the greatest number of first-class certificates - to Mr. Lewis Solomon, Covent-garden'.
