The Indian Mosque, Durban, South Africa
The Indian Mosque, Durban, South Africa. Large numbers of indentured labourers were brought to Natal from India by the British in the 19th century. As a result, Durban had the largest Asian population in South Africa. In the 1880s a modest mosque was built on Grey Street in the city. The building was expanded over the years that followed, with two minarets added in 1904 and 1905. A print from View Album of Glorious Durban
