Group for the School of Industry for Female Orphans, Grove-Road, St. John's Wood - by E.G. Physick, from the Exhibition of the Royal Academy, 1854. Mr. Physick...is distinguished for the spirit of his conceptions and the delicacy of his modeling. While he is bold, he yet remembers that repose is an essential requisite in sculpture..."Defend the Fatherless" is the subject appropriately selected by Mr. Physick for the portico of the new School of Industry for Female Orphans...for the reception of about sixty orphan girls who have lost both parents; and who are clothed, educated, maintained, and trained for domestic service. The charity was instituted in 1786...It is supported entirely by voluntary donations and annual subscriptions. Four hundred and twenty-eight orphan children have already been benefited by this charity. The model has yet to be executed in stone'. From "Illustrated London News", 1854
