Framed Print of George Edmund Street, architect, 1878. Creator: Lock & Whitfield
George Edmund Street, architect, 1878. After serving as an apprentice to George Gilbert Scott, Street set up his own practice in 1848. He favoured the Gothic style, and designed numerous churches, as well as working on restoration projects at cathedrals including Bristol, York Minster and Christ Church, Dublin. His most famous work is probably the Royal Courts of Justice in the Strand, London. As well as being a practicing architect, Street was also an influential teacher, and became Professor of Architecture at the Royal Academy in 1879.
