The dromedary regiment was created by Napoleon in 1799 who staffed it with elite soldiers and based it in Cairo. Major General Doyle encountered the Corps during his campaign in Egypt in 1801. Sir Charles William Doyle (1770 - 1842) was with Lord Abercromby at the battle of Mandora (13th March 1801) and was injured at the battle of Alexandria (21st March 1801) during the Napoleonic Wars.
