West End of Downing Street, "No.10" and a Glimpse of the Foreign Office, c1935. Number 10 Downing Street in central London is the official residence of the British Prime Minister. Number, 11, next door, is the official residence of the Chancellor of the Exchequer. The street was built in the 1680s by Sir George Downing. This view shows members of the public walking along the street. Security gates were installed in the 1980s, preventing public access. Juan Rius Rivera, (1843-1924), 1920s

General Juan Rius Rivera. Born in Puerto Rico in 1843; came to Cuba in 1870; he joined the revolution and fought until 1878. He returned with an expedition in September 1896 and was in charge of the forces of Pinar del Rio. In March 1897 he was wounded and taken prisoner.
