Elisabeth Foster, (1933). Portrait of early female British novelist Elizabeth Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1759-1824). Born Elizabeth Christiana Hervey, then Lady Elizabeth Foster, she was close friend of Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire, but later supplanted her, gaining the affections of William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire, and later marrying him. After a miniature by Richard Cosway. From "Gestalten Der Weltgeschichte", a book of cigarette-card portrait miniatures of figures in world history from the last four hundred years. [Germany, 1933]

Duchess of Devonshire and Child, c1786, (c1912). Portrait of Georgiana Cavendish, Duchess of Devonshire (1757-1806) and her daughter Lady Georgiana Cavendish (Little G) (1783-1858). Painting at Chatsworth House, Derbyshire. British portrait painter Sir Joshua Reynolds (1723-1792) promoted the ‘Grand Style in painting, and was a founder and first president of the Royal Academy of Arts in London. He held the position of Principal Painter in Ordinary to the king. His work is held in galleries and museums around the world.
