August II. Der Starke, (1933). Portrait of Augustus II the Strong (1670-1733), Elector of Saxony (as Frederick Augustus I), Imperial Vicar, elected King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania. His was nicknamed the Strong", the Saxon Hercules and Iron-Hand, due to his physical strength, especially at fox-tossing - a competitive blood sport which involved throwing live foxes and other animals high into the air.
