Exeter Change in 1826, (1881). The Royal Menagerie at the Exeter Exchange on the Strand in London. The menagerie occupied the upper floors of the building from 1773 until it was demolished in 1829. The animals on show included lions, tigers, and monkeys, confined in iron cages in small rooms. The roaring of the big cats could be heard in the street below, occasionally scaring the horses. From Old and New London: A Narrative of Its History, Its People, and Its Places. Westminster and the Western Suburbs, by Edward Walford, Vol. III. [Cassell, Petter, Galpin & Co.
