Framed Print of Enzo Ferrari, 1995
Enzo Ferrari, 1995. Nominated Man of the Century by Autocar to celebrate the magazine's centenary year. After WWI he got a job as a test driver for a small carmaker CMN, and was then promoted to full factory driver. In 1929 Ferrari started his own firm, Scuderia Ferrari. He managed to sign the great racing driver Tazio Nuvolaria, and in his first year the Scuderia Ferrari had 50 full and part-time drivers. It was the largest team ever put together by one individual. In 1943, the Ferrari factory was making ball bearings for the war effort. The company later moved to Maranello, Italy where it was destroyed by bombs. In 1946, the factory was rebuilt and renamed Ferrari. After the war Ferrari set out to create his own Grand Prix car and in 1951 scored their first Grand Prix victory at the British Grand Prix. In 1969, Ferrari became part of the Fiat empire, with Enzo staying on as head of his factory in Maranello. Heritage Images features heritage image collections. © National Motor Museum/Heritage Images
