Entrance to the Hall of the Barque... 19th century, (1907). Creator: Unknown
Entrance to the Hall of the Barque, the Ante-Room of the Hall of Ambassadors, with View of the Court of the Fish-Pond, 19th century, (1907). View of courtyard and pool in the Hall of the Boat, palace of the Alhambra, Granada, Spain, which mainly dates from the 14th century. The Arabic word baraka, which means blessing, was corrupted into the Spanish word barca, which means boat, hence the court was erroneously named Sala de la Barca (Hall of the Boat). From " The Alhambra: being a brief record of the Arabian conquest of the Peninsula with a particular account of the Mohammedan architecture and decoration" by Albert F. Calvert. [John Lane, London & New York, 1907]
