The Devonshire Park Lawn Tennis Ground, Eastbourne, 1881. The agreeable and fashionable Sussex coast watering-place at the Beachy Head extremity of the South Downs has made great progress of late years, and its attractions will this summer be acknowledged by a host of visitors. There is not a finer pleasure-ground anywhere, belonging to a town of this class, than Devonshire Park, named after the Duke, who is the chief proprietor of Eastbourne. With its commodious Pavilion, and its cricket-ground and lawn-tennis ground, eleven acres in extent, which are shown in our Illustration, it affords the most ample convenience for social recreation. The grounds, it will be seen, are well wooded and inclosed, and are shielded by the Downs from rough winds; there are thirty lawn-tennis courts in the Park, twenty on the upper level. The whole of these grounds, as well as the Floral Hall, are now illuminated at night by Messrs. Siemens system of electric lighting, the apparatus being worked by two 10-horse power engines, at the base of the Swimming Baths. It is intended to display the electric light along the whole seafront of Eastbourne, a length of nearly three miles'. From Illustrated London News, 1881. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame. While we aim to keep sizing consistent, exact dimensions may vary slightly due to differences in print size or production requirements, which may result in a variation in the overall size (up to approximately 2.5cm (1"))
