Dawn--Hunter with Dog, 1882. Created at the height of Harpigniess career, this large watercolour landscape displays the artists characteristic gray-green palette. Harpignies developed the composition using overlapping planes unified by a meandering stream or road. The artist was deeply influenced by Camille Corot (see cat. no. 45). As is the case with so much of Corots mature work, it is impossible to specify the locale of Dawn-Hunter with Dog.
