Confirmation of Dr. Longley's election to the Archbishopric of Canterbury..., 1862. Creator: J. M. Williams
Confirmation of Dr. Longley's election to the Archbishopric of Canterbury in the Church of St. Mary-Le-Bow, Cheapside [London]: the Archbishop-elect taking the oaths, 1862. 'The Litany service was read by the Rev. Marshall Hall Vine, the Rector of the parish; after which the Archbishop, Bishops, and legal gentlemen took their seats at a table placed in the middle aisle...Proclamation was then made that if any one had any objection to urge against Dr. Longley he was to come forward and declare it, and, apparently, under the impression that there might be some persons who had not heard it, proclamation was again made, but with precisely the same result. The Archbishop then took the oaths in the usual form, and the proceedings terminated'. From "Illustrated London News", 1862
