Colonel M'Neill...was severely wounded in the conflict with the Ashantees at Essaman, near Elmina, on the 14th November, while serving as second in command on the Gold Coast under Sir Garnet Wolseley. This gallant officer was employed as Aide-de-Camp to Sir Edward Lugard in India during the campaign of 1857-8, and was present at the siege and capture of Lucknow...In 1861 he proceeded with Sir Duncan Cameron to New Zealand as the General's Aide-de-Camp, and served there till 1865. He was present at the engagements on the Katikara river, at the Koeroa, at Rangariri, at the Gate Pah, and in various other encounters with the natives. He...gained the Victoria Cross for saving the life of his orderly. Colonel M'Neill commanded the Tipperary flying column during the Fenian disturbances in the winter of 1866-7...He served as military secretary to Lord Lisgar during his term of office as Governor-General of Canada, and was employed on the staff of the Red River expedition, under Sir Garnet Wolseley, in 1870; for the latter he was created a Companion of the Order of St. Michael and St. George'. Wood effect frame, card mounted, 10x8 fade resistant photo print. Overall outside dimensions 14x12 inches (36x31cm). Environmentally and ozone friendly, 40mm wide x 15mm Polycore® moulding has the look of real wood, is durable and light and easy to hang. Biodegradable and made with non-chlorinated gases (no toxic fumes) it is efficient; producing 100 tons of polystyrene can save 300 tons of trees! Prints are glazed with lightweight, shatterproof, optical clarity acrylic (providing the same general protection from the environment as glass). The back is stapled hardboard with a sawtooth hanger attached. Note: measurements provided are estimated outer dimensions, which include both the image and the frame.
