Framed Print of Coffin Portrait of a Man of Poraj Coat of Arms, between 1625-1675. Creator: Unknown
Coffin Portrait of a Man of Poraj Coat of Arms, between 1625-1675.
Additional Info: A coffin portrait of an unknown man, with a rather mournful expression-dressed in black, with a black beard and black hair combed back, it features a colourful accent in the form of the Poraj coat of arms depicting a white rose on a red field. Unfortunately, this prevalent coat of arms does not allow us to determine that person's identity. It is a rather unusual coffin portrait they usually have a characteristic pentagonal form corresponding to the coffin shape. Here, instead of this typical shape, we can see smooth wavy lines, which, however, can be limited by a rectangular outline. Perhaps such was the man's coffin: a simple box of several boards and the painter tried to overcome this simplicity by making the edges decorative and smooth.
